Jesus was a real historical figure. He was either a lunatic, liar or God.
Jesus existed as certainly as Caesar ever did. The counterargument for His divinity is that miracles cannot exist, therefore Jesus was not resurrected. This belief presumes that miracles are impossible. Therefore, it was Jesus’ twin brother who was sighted after his resurrection, since scholars do not dispute that someone who looked exactly like him was seen after the crucifixion.
If we cannot believe the witnesses, then we should not believe that other historical figures or events existed of which we have equal evidence or even less evidence for.
